Women's Soccer Blanks Crosstown Rival Clark, 2-0

Worcester, MA --- Junior Alicia Macomber (Stoughton, MA) registered one goal and had a hand in the game-winning assist while classmate Jillian Witkowski (Leicester, MA) stopped all three shots she saw on net as both helped blank Clark, 2-0, in non-conference women's soccer action this afternoon at Granger Field.

With the victory the Lancers improve to 4-1 while the Cougars slip to 0-5 in the loss.

Senior Margo Clifford (Attleboro, MA) helped put the Blue and Gold on top 1-0 in the 34th minute after she headed a direct kick in the box by Macomber. The marker was Cliffords second of the season.

Macomber then gave the Lancers some insurance in the 50th minute to start off the second stanza when she collected her own rebound and fired home her sixth tally of the season to tie for first in the MASCAC in the category.

Clark had one final chance to get back into the contest in the 86th minute, but the attempt off a free kick by freshman Emma Denault (Holden, MA) sailed over the crossbar.

Witkowski notched her second shutout of the season while junior Gabby Paolini (N. Potomac, MD) turned aside six shots in the loss for the Cougars.

The Lancers led in shots (13-12) as the hosts held the 7-0 edge in corner kicks.

Worcester State opens their MASCAC slate next Saturday against MCLA at home in a 5 PM affair. Clark heads to Keene State for a 6:30 matchup in Keene, NH.
