Donohue Propels Women’s Indoor Track at Tufts Stampede Invitational

Medford, MA --- Sophomore Erin Donohue (Saugus, MA) clocked a school-record time for fourth in the 3,000 meter run (10:56.08) to help lead the Worcester State women's indoor track team at the non-scoring Tufts Stampede Invitational.

Donohue eclipsed a 17-year record that was held by Erica Pierce and set at Bowdoin College on exactly the same day. The mark, which was 8 hundreth's of a second off from qualifying for the New England Division III Championships shaved off nearly 20 seconds from the previous record (11:07).

Junior Mara Kralian (N. Grafton, MA) once again paced the sprinters as she placed third in the 60 (8.10) – after clocking 8.05 in the preliminary round – before she added fourth in the 200 (26.97). Kralian also had a second-place leap in the long jump (5.13 meters).

Sophomore Briana Wise (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) posted third in the 200 (26.72), seventh in the 60 (8.21) and ninth in the long jump (4.68m) while third-year Sarah Rafferty (Uxbridge, MA) registered fifth in the 60 (8.21), 10th in the long jump (4.62m) and 12th in the 200 (27.84).

First-year Christy Deininger (N. Attleboro, MA) also sprinted to third in the 60 meter hurdles (9.79) and classmate Megan Taylor (Danvers, MA) finished in seventh in the 600 (1:45.96).

Freshman Amanda Holden (Lunenburg, MA) added third in the triple jump (10.57m) to add her name to the list of Division III New England qualifiers as she also notched seventh in the 60 meter hurdles (10.57m) and ninth in the high jump (1.48m).

The 4x400 relay team was seconds away from breaking the school mark in the event with a time of 4:18.62.

Senior Christina Bisbee (N. Attleboro, MA) caulked up fifth in the weight throw (12.72m) as freshman Hannah Werneth (N. Yarmouth, ME) registered fifth in the shot put (11.26m). First-year Kristen Wilson (Tewksbury, MA) cleared ninth in the high jump with a height of 1.48 meters.

In the field, freshman Marlene Christenson (Danvers, MA) also placed 13th in the weight throw (10.86m) as sophomore Kristen Brunelle (Dracut, MA) finished 16th in the shot put (9.86m).

Rookie Alison Hickey (Easton, MA) and Donohue each recorded 11th (2:30.74) and 12th (2:36.53) in the 800, respectively, while sophomore Brittany Grueter (Foxboro, MA) added 12th in the 3,000 (11:10.55).

The distance corps was also led by freshman Kelsey Cartwright (Bridgewater, MA) and junior Maura Withington (W. Palm Beach, FL) who were seconds apart in 21st (5:46.22) and 22nd (5.47.02), respectively, in the mile.

Next week the Lancers look to successfully defend their 2009-10 MASCAC Indoor Championship title when they head up to Southern Maine.
