Worcester State Women's Track Ranked 9th In Latest USTFCCCA New England Regional Rankings

Norton, MA --- Sophomore Amanda Caldarone (Danvers, MA) took the top spot in the long jump (16-11.25/5.16m) and the 4x200 meter relay team earned first with a time of 1:48.16 as both performances helped lead the Worcester State women's indoor track and field team at the Wheaton Invitational this afternoon.

The ECAC Division III Championship qualifying 4x200 meter squad was made up of junior's Christy Deininger (N. Attleboro, MA) and Megan Taylor (Danvers, MA) along with sophomore Brittany Hodgerney (Leicester, MA) and freshman Emily Riehl (Trumbull, CT).

Reihl also teamed with senior classmates Erin Donohue (Saugus, MA) and Natalie Marchi (Nortbridge, MA) with sophomore Chelsey Peso (Uxbridge, MA) to eclipse the school record set at the Division III New England Championships last season in the distance medley relay for third place (12:57.99).

The DMR team ran an ECAC standard time and broke the previous mark that junior's Kelsey Cartwright (Bridgewater, MA) and Ali Barrett (Hingham, MA) helped establish (13:05.38).

Deininger also finished second in the 60 meters (8.01) and 60 meter hurdles (9.38) while sophomore Alexandria McMahon (E. Longmeadow, MA) placed third in the long jump (16-01.50/4.91m). Taylor notched fourth in the 300 (43.27) as teammate Kim West (Harvard, MA) added 11th in the same event (44.68).

Junior Hannah Werneth (N. Yarmouth, MA) led the field with a solid first-place toss in the shot put (36-11.75/11.27m) to qualify for the Division III New England Championships and seventh in the weight throw (37-05.05/11.42m).

In the 60 meter hurdles McMahon (5th – 9.85) and freshman Maddison Benson (Attleboro, MA) (6th – 9.86) both clocked solid times as Hodgerney and second-year Liz Bodensieck (Raynham, MA) recorded 7th (8.23) and 9th (8.30) in the 60, respectively.

Benson and McMahon both stamped their ticket to the Division III New England's with their hurdle times.

In the high jump, sophomore newcomer Cayla Leinonen (Spencer, MA) opened her season with fourth in the high jump followed by Taylor and junior Amanda Holden (Lunenburg, MA) who tied for fifth (4-09.75/1.47m).

Third-year Marlene Christenson (Danvers, MA) tallied fourth in the weight throw (39-02.25/11.94m) and freshman Angelique Nurse (Auburn, MA) finished fourth in the triple jump (33-07.25/10.24m).

Barrett and classmate Jenna Pickard (Peabody, MA) were seconds apart in the 3,000 to round out the competitors with seventh (11:22.62) and eighth (11:27.61), respectively.

Next week the Lancers head to the MIT Invitational while select sprinters will run at the Boston University Terrier Invitational.
