Buzzards Bay, MA --- Sophomore Briana Wise (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) has been selected this week's MASCAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week for a standout performance this past weekend at the non-scoring Bryant Invitational. For Wise, this is her first weekly honor this season and third honor of her career.
Wise placed sixth at the 100 meters (12.93), seventh in the 200 meters and 14th in the long jump (4.68 meters) against primarily Division I competition this past Saturday. Wise distinguished herself by qualifying for the Division III New England Championships in the 100 before she stamped her ticket for the ECACs at Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA in the 200.
Wise comes off a solid indoor campaign where she earned All-MASCAC/Alliance honors in the 55 meters, the 200 meters and the long jump. She was the anchor leg on the 4x200 meter relay team reset the meet record with a first-place photo finish.
Wise capped off the winter season by placing ninth in the 200 (26.06) at the Indoor ECAC Championships at the NYC Armory while the 4x200 team (1:47.09) earned All-ECAC honors with an eighth-place finish. Wise was .07 seconds off from breaking her own school record in the 200.
The Lancers will compete again this weekend at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational.
