Wise Named MASCAC Track Women's Track Athlete of the Week

MASCAC Weekly Women's Track & Field Release

Buzzards Bay, MA --- Worcester State junior Briana Wise (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) has been tabbed this week's MASCAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week for helping lift the Lancers to first place at the Jim Sheehan Invitational this past weekend.

For Wise, this marks the ninth time this season that she has earned weekly laurels from the conference.

Wise clocked 12.57 for the top finish in the 100 meter dash and anchored a school-record setting performance along with senior classmates Mara Kralian (N. Grafton, MA) and Sarah Rafferty (Uxbridge, MA) and sophomore Christy Deininger (N. Attleboro, MA) for the winning 4x100 meter relay (47.78).

The 4x100 meter relay time is currently now the sixth-best time in the latest NCAA Division III performance list and the best in both the Division III New England and the ECAC Division III.

This past indoor season, Wise sprinted her way to 200 meter crowns at the MASCAC/Alliance, Division III New England, the Open New England and ECAC Division III New England meets. She became the first female to accomplish the feat and the second Lancer since the DIII New England indoor competition started in 1980.

The week after she missed out being in the finals at the Division III Indoor Championships in the 60 meter dash by one hundredth of a second, Wise bounced back and reset school records in the 100 (12.05) and the 200 (24.67) at the 49er Classic in Charlotte, North Carolina.

After nearly a month since then, her marks are still good for second on the latest Division III Outdoor National performance list.

The Lancers will have two competitions to warm-up for the MASCAC/Alliance Championships at Westfield State on April 28 when they travel to UMass Amherst and Fitchburg State in the next week.
