Jasper Wins Javelin And Heptathlon At Conn College Silfen Invitational

 

New London, CT --- Senior Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) placed first in the heptathlon with 4,589 points and she topped the field in the open javelin to help pace the Worcester State women's outdoor track and field team to second at the Conn College Silfen Invitational.

Tufts won the team title with 188 points while the Lancers were only 28 points off and one of three squads to post a triple-digit scoring sum.

Jasper won the 200 meters (26.23), the 800 (2:34.07), the 100 meter hurdles (15.35), the shot put (35-11.25/10.95m) and javelin (126-11/38.68m) en-route to besting the next closest competitor by 387 points. She also won the javelin with an Open New England standard of 137-1 (41.79m).

Other top finishers for the Lancers included junior Francesca Casasanta (Milford, MA) in the high jump (5-2.25/1.58m) and junior Hanna Carson (Natick, MA) in the shot put (38-11.75/11.88m). Casasanta also tallied seventh in the triple jump (33-1/10.08m).

Senior Brittany Hodgerney (Leicester, MA) was the runner up in the 100 (12.82) and 200 (26.59) while classmate Alexandria McMahon (E. Longmeadow, MA) match the feat with second in both the 100 meter hurdles (15.62) and 400 meter hurdles (1:07.28).

Sophomore Aliya-Marie Melville (Worcester, MA/South) added fourth in the 400 (1:01.10) and junior Maddie Benson (Attleboro, MA) timed fourth in the 100 meter hurdles followed by senior Amanda Caldarone (Danvers, MA), who placed sixth (16.66).  

Freshman Emily Visconti (N. Reading, MA) finished sixth in the 100 (13.03) and long jump (15-8.75/4.79m) while registering ninth in the 200 (27.45). Freshman Rachel Lauzon (Carver, MA) had a time of 1:12.53 in the 400 meter hurdles for sixth.

The 4x800 meter relay of senior Chelsey Peso (Uxbridge, MA), freshman Kayla Corcoran (Lunenburg, MA), classmate Sarah McIsaac (Weymouth, MA) and sophomore Danielle Cote (Dighton, MA) notched second overall with a time of 10:44.87.

The 4x400 relay of Melville, junior Eva Bunszell (Bridgewater, MA), Hodgerney and McMahon at anchor was fourth (4:13.09).

In the field, senior Shannon Trybus (Bondsville, MA), junior Molly Downing (Dedham, MA) and Carson finished third (131-0/39.92m), sixth (128-6/39.16m) and seventh (128-2/39.07m), respectively in the hammer.

Caldarone also marked up fifth in the long jump (16-5.75/5.02m) and seventh in the triple jump (32-9.75/10.00) as junior Dalena Le (Worcester, MA/Doherty) sprinted to fourth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:10.48) and she placed seventh in the long jump (15-2.25/4.63m).

Sophomore Elizabeth McCormack (Gloucester, MA) tossed fifth in the discus (99-5/30.31m) and junior Courtney Spinelli (Tewksbury, MA) heaved sixth in the javelin (106-8/32.52m).  

Freshman Megan Rouillard (Barrington, NH) rounded out the field with eighth in the discus (96-5/29.39m).

Next week the Lancers will compete at the Springfield Invitational before heading to the MASCAC/Alliance Championships on April 25.
