Women's Outdoor Track Shares MASCAC Outdoor Championship Title

 

Fitchburg, MA --- Worcester State and Bridgewater State both  tallied 186 points capture the 2015 MASCAC Women’s Outdoor Championship. The Lancers claimed their fourth overall conference title and fourth in the New England Alliance standings (103 points).

Senior Alexandria McMahon (E. Longmeadow, MA) placed first in the 400 meters (58.60) and 400 meter hurdles (1:05.66) before she anchored the winning 4x400 meter relay (4:04.82) that also included sophomore Aliya-Marie Melville (Worcester, MA/South), junior Eva Bunszell (Bridgewater, MA) and senior Brittany Hodgerney (Leicester, MA).

McMahon reset the previous 400 standard set by Leah Walczak in 2010 at the Division III New England Championships (59.03) with an Open New England qualifier.

Senior Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) claimed a MASCAC/Alliance title in the javelin (125-1) while she added the top finish in the 100 meter hurdles (15.51). Senior Amanda Caldarone (Danvers, MA) won the long jump (17-6.5/5.34m).

Hodgerney added second place in the 100 (13.10) and 200 (26.87) as Meville was the runner-up in the 400 (59.83).

Sophomore Erin Beccia (Rutland, MA) notched third in the 10,000 (41:24.68), junior Dalena Le (Worcester, MA/Doherty) notched fourth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:11.15), clasmate Maddie Benson (Attleboro, MA) finished sixth in the 100 meter hurdles (16.10) and sophomore Danielle Cote (Dighton, MA) chipped in with one point for sixth place in the 1,500 (5:17.25).

The 4x800 relay of Cote as the third leg along with freshman classmates Kayla Corcoran (Lunenburg, MA) at lead-off, Sarah McIsaac (Weymouth, MA) second and Danielle Bavoux (Medway, MA) at anchor was third with a time of 10:32.70.

The Lancers did a bulk of their scoring in the field with 89 points alone coming in seven events.

Caldarone registered second in the triple jump (34-5.75/10.51m), junior Francesca Casasanta (Milford, MA) was the finalist in the high jump (5-0.25/1.53m) and sophomore Elizabeth McCormack (Gloucester, MA) marked up second in the discus (105-7/32.19m).

Junior Hanna Carson (Natick, MA) recorded second in the shot put (40-4.75/12.31m), fifth in the discus (97-8/29.76m) and sixth in the hammer (133-9/40.78m) while senior Shannon Trybus (Bondsville, MA) tossed third in the hammer (138-10/42.31m).

Carson stamped her ticket to the Open New England Championships and eclipsed Jasper's outdoor shot put record set at the Division III New Englands in 2013 while competing in the heptathlon (40-1.50/12.23m)

Jasper also scored points in the shot put (5th - 35-9.25/10.90m) and long jump (3rd - 16-8.50/5.09m) as freshman Megan Rouillard (Barrington, NH) impressed with third in the javelin (114-0/37.74m). Casasanta notched fourth in the triple jump (33-8/10.26m) followed by Le in fifth (32-6.5/10.02m). Le was also sixth in the long jump (14-11.25/4.55m).

Freshman Emily Visconti (N. Reading, MA) earned a medal with fifth in the long jump and junior Molly Downing (Dedham, MA) had a mark of fifth in the hammer (137-7/41.95m) and sixth in the discus (96-1/29.3m).

Next week the Lancers will compete at the two-day Division III New England Championships hosted by MIT.
