
Worcester, MA- On a windy Friday, the Worcester State Women's Track and Field team went full force at the Regis Classic as they looked to continue their success from last week's meet at UMass-Dartmouth. The Lancers were led by the top marks of sophomore Ciara Adu-Addo (Worcester, MA) who claimed second in the 100m and first in the long jump while helping to lead Worcester to a team 84 points for first at the meet.
Adu-Addo would be the lone qualifier in the 100m with a 12.91 second to go along with her equally strong showing in the long jump where she claimed first with a 5.51m landing. Fellow sophomore Alexis Strong (Southington, CT) would claim second with a 5.13m mark. In the 200m Strong took home 10th at 27.87 seconds with first years Emily Bodwell (Lakeville, MA) and Gracie Van Akin (Belmost, MA) taking 19th at 29.68 and 31st with a 32.98. In the middle of the 200m pack was the sophomore duo of Meghan Driscoll (Mansfield, MA) and Mia Guinto (West Boylston, MA) who took home 22nd and 27th with time of 29.97 and 30.78 and junior Erin Condon (East Bridgewater, MA) finishing in 29th with a 31.32. In the 400m, senior Carly Gilson (Grafton, MA) would claim 5th with a 61.71.
In the middle distance junior Bridget O'Malley (Leominster, MA) would claim 4th in the 800m with a 2:30.11 while first year Samantha Edwards (East Longmeadow, MA) and junior Claudia Symonick (Auburn, MA) would cross in 17th and 18th with just over a second in between at 2:47.67 and 2:48.86. The 1,500m would see Edwards back in action for 12th in a time of 5:34.19 while juniors Aubrey Tunnera (Marlborough, MA) and Jillian McMenemy (Westborough, MA) would take 15th and 18th in time of 5:58.61 and 6:12.13. Going the long distance was junior Kelsey Gendreau (Seekonk, MA) who claimed 4th in the 5,000m with a time of 21:01.81. Dirsa would also go for a longer stretch when she and junior Leah Berg (Worcester, MA) would compete in the 3,000m Steeplechase. Berg would claim 4th with a time of 13:53.36 while Dira would be two behind at 14:15.85.
In relay action the grouping of Adu-Addo, first year AriannaFarrell (Wilmington, MA), Gilson and Strong would take 5th in a time of 51.72.
In the field events sophomore Lauren Condike (East Longmeadow, MA) would take third in the high jump with a mark of 1.41m while Bodwell would claim 6th in the triple jump on a 9.82m mark just edging out Condike who finished in 12th on an 8.86m measurement.
The throwing circle would see ample success as sophomore Jadah Stokes (Chicopee, MA) would claim first in the shot put with an 11.62m,2nd in the discus with a 30.35m and fifth in the hammer at 36.48m. Graduate student Sthanisha Moreau (Taunton, MA) would take home fourth in the shot put on a 10.26m with junior Ava Piccolo (Tewksbury, MA) claiming 18th with an 8.78m. The pair would also compete in the hammer, where Piccolo would claim 20th on 25.95m and Moreau would take home 15th on 29.28m. Sophomore Luana Grau-Moura (Marlborough, MA) would take home 21st in the shot put and 18th in the hammer with throws of 8.46m and 26.30m. First years Charlotte Collins (Weymouth, MA) and Angela Cragnalo-Torrez (Walpole, MA) would wrap up the shot put with 22nd and 33rd on 8.36m and 7.83m. Collins would also see the throwing pit in the hammer with a 13th place finish at 30.95m, falling just behind senior Arianna Constant (Leominster, MA) who claimed 12th with a duplicate mark but a throw earlier. Constant would then claim third in the javelin on a 30.50m throw leading junior Ava Vasquez (Methuen, MA) who came in fourth with a 28.87m, Cragnalo-Torrez in fifth with a 28.85m and Condon in 18th with a 18.65m. Sophomore Morgan Merrell (Leicester, MA) would claim 8th in the discus on a 27.77m mark with Moreau scoring a 27.41m for 10th, Collins as 27.30 for 12th and Grau-Moura with a 24.43m for 21st. Crognalo-Torrez would take home 33rd on a 21.13m land to wrap up the day for the Lancers.
The Lancers are back in action next Friday as they head to the BSU Bears Invite in their first taste of the MASCAC Championship in three weeks.
