Jasper Selected To Capital One Co-SIDA Division III All-Academic District Team

Worcester, MA --- Senior Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) has been tabbed to the Capital One Academic Division III District I Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (Co-SIDA). Jasper will now move on to the national ballot for Academic All-American consideration.

The honor marks the first-ever Co-SIDA selection for the women's volleyball squad and her third career nod to the District I team as she has been recognized with track and field team accolades in each of the last two years.

Out of 51 First-team honorees through the eight districts, Jasper was one of six representing a public institution and she was one of six chosen from District I, which is comprised of schools from Massachusetts, Vermont, Maine and New Hampshire.

Voted by the leagues head coaches as the MASCAC Player of the Year earlier this week, Jasper also earned her fourth career all-conference selection this past Tuesday.

Entering the conference tournament semifinals this week, Jasper boasts totals of 443 kills, 4.39 kills per set and 4.90 points per set, sums and averages that are all in the top 20 nationally. She is also seventh in the MASCAC in hitting percentage, 10th in both digs per set and total digs (295) and her 27 blocks are 14th.

Jasper is ranked second in New England in kills per set and points per set and she is one of two in the entire region with 400-plus kills.

Sporting a 3.67 grade point average in nursing, Jasper was inducted into WSU's newly formed Chi Alpha Sigma honor society this past academic year as a junior. She is active in the student-athlete mentor program and a six time MASCAC All-Academic honoree.

During the track and field season in each of the last three years, Jasper has qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships in the javelin. She also captured All-American accolades in the heptathlon during her 2014 outdoor campaign with an eighth place finish.

To be eligible for all-academic honors, a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

This year marks the fourth that the College Division (Non-Division I) has been expanded to include Divisions I, II, III, NAIA, Canadian schools and two-year institutions. The regions were spread out to include eight distinct geographic locations across the United States.

Since 2011, nine WSU student-athletes have earned District I honors and two have been distinguished with an Academic All-American accolades.
