Cabral's Stellar Outing Highlights Women's Volleyball At Regis Tri-Match

 

WESTON, Mass. --- Senior Jennifer Cabral (Swansea, Mass.) combined for 20 kills and 35 digs to help pace the Worcester State women's volleyball team in a pair of setbacks this afternoon at Regis College.

The Lancers (5-9) were dispatched in the opener, 3-1, by the hosting Pride (10-9) by set scores of 25-19, 19-25, 25-21 and 25-21.

Cabral was the standout as she logged her fourth double-double of the season, finishing with a contest-best 18 digs to go with 10 kills.

Freshman Emily Carens (Northboro, Mass) tallied 11 kills, five digs and a pair of block assists while junior Jamika Townsend (Virginia Beach, Va.) added 24 assists, 10 digs and five service aces.

Senior Kaylee Leduc (Swansea, Mass.) chipped in with 10 digs to move into third place on WSU's all-time digs list with 910 over her four-year career.

Leduc and freshman Elexi Miskiv (Centerville, Mass.) both deposited three aces apiece.

In the finale against Mount Holyoke (6-7), the Blue and Gold won the first two sets, 25-19 and 25-12, but fell in the final three by scores of 25-23, 25-10 and 15-9.

Cabral did a little bit of everything to finish with 17 digs, 10 kills, four assists and three aces as Townsend registered 28 assists, six kills and 10 digs.

Miskiv paced the back line with 10 digs while junior Valerie Hoyle (Bridgewater, Mass.) and Cabral teamed for seven block assists.

With her outstanding effort defensively, Cabral now sits at second place on the career digs list, just 37 off her teammate Leduc with 947.

The Lancers return to the Greater Boston area to take on Lasell in Newton in a 7 PM match-up on Tuesday.
