Gillis and Colonis Sweep MASCAC Volleyball Awards for Lancers

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Worcester State University women's volleyball earned their first Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Player of the Week honors of the season on Monday afternoon, and it was a sweep of both awards after a perfect week for the Lancers.

Senior Natalie Gillis (Ashland, Mass.) was named MASCAC Player of the Week, and freshman Angela Colonis (Waterford, Conn.) was selected as Rookie of the Week after Worcester State won three matches, two of them in conference play.

Gillis equaled a career high with 19 kills in a MASCAC win over MCLA, and then set a new career best the very next time out when she became just the fourth different Lancer in history to record 25 or more kills in a match. Gillis had 25 kills and 21 digs in the 3-1 win over Anna Maria. She finished the week with six kills and seven digs in a 3-0 win over Mass. Maritime for a final stat-line of 50 kills, 47 digs and a .246 hitting percentage.

Colonis had three double-doubles while amassing 62 assists, 27 digs and 25 assists in the three Worcester State victories. The rookie nearly had a triple-double with 23 assists, 10 digs and nine kills in the 3-1 win over MCLA. She then posted a career-high 11 kills to go with 26 assists in the 3-1 win over Anna Maria College, and finished the week with 13 assists, 10 digs and five kills in the 3-0 win over the Buccaneers.

The Lancers are 8-12 on the season and continue to be perfect in the conference with a 5-0 record. They will look to continue their perfect MASCAC season on Wednesday night when they host Salem State at 7:00 PM.
