Lancers Drop Two at Suffolk Tri-Match

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Volleyball team returned to action Saturday afternoon after a two day hiatus, following their victory over cross city rival in WPI. The Lancers look to build off the moment they gained Thursday, as they battle the Keene State Owls and the Suffolk Rams in Boston.

 

Final: Worcester State:0  Keene State : 3 (26-28,15-25,19-25)

 

The Lancers opened up their doubleheader Saturday with a battle against the Keene State Owls. The Lancers battled tight, but were unfortunately swept in 3 sets (26-28, 15-25, 19-25). The Lancers were led by juniors Angela Colonis (Waterford,CT)  Megan Bardis (Rutland, MA) and senior Maeve Cadogan (Wilmington, MA). Colonis contributed 5 kills, 15 assists and 6 points. Bardis had 11 assists and Cadogan contributed 6.5 points. 

 

Final : Worcester State: 0 Suffolk: 3 (17-25, 22-25, 19-25)

 

The Lancers concluded their doubleheader with a matchup with the host Rams. The Lancers stuck with the Rams through each set, but ultimately fell to the host Rams in 3 sets (17-25, 22-25,19-25 ) The Lancers were lead by first year Beatrice Gamboa Estrella (Simi Valley, CA) with 6 kills and 7.5 points along with Colonis with 9 assists, 5 points and Kate Stedronsky (Sea Grit, NJ) with 7.5 points.

 

Graduate student Camryn Burgio (Quincy, MA), who was on the hunt for 1,000 career dog, secured it in the second match of the day. She now sits at 1,007 career digs.

 

The Lancers now sit at 4-6 on the season while Suffolk improves to 6-5 on the season. Worcester State is back in action next Thursday when they head to UMass-Dartmouth for a 6pm start.
