Westfield, MA --- Freshman Maura Withington (Walpole, MA) placed fifth (20:21) while junior Kara Antrim (Rowley, MA) recorded seventh (20:22) to help lead the Worcester State to a third place finish at the MASCAC Women's Cross Country Championships this afternoon at Stanley Park .
Host Westfield State took the team crown with 24 points as six finishers placed in the top ten. Bridgewater State tallied second with 72 followed by the Lady Lancers (90) while Fitchburg State (108) and Salem State (115) rounded out the top five.
As the top freshman finisher, Withington was awarded the MASCAC Women's Rookie of the Year award following the conclusion of the race.
Freshman Meghan Plant (Franklin, MA) crossed the line in 20th (21:39) while classmate Rachael Sullivan (Ipswich, MA) notched 36th (22:37). Newcomer Rachael Baker (Mystic, CT) rounded out the finishers as she covered the 5k layout with a time of 23:55 in 47th place.
Worcester State competes again next week when Westfield hosts the New England Alliance Championships.
