Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Men's Golf team began their season this afternoon with a journey to Rhode Island College to take on the Anchormen in a prep match before the MASCAC Championships next week. The match would end in a 324-324 tie, with Worcester claiming the victory in the tiebreaker.
Senior Jack Ryan (Wakefield, MA) would come out as the top Lancer and tying for the top spot with RIC with a score of 76. Close on his heels was junior Jonny Gastonguay (Ashburnham, MA) who finished the afternoon with a score of 79 and third at the meet. Sophomore Zach Hurley (Feeding Hills, MA) would claim 5th place after finishing +10 on a score of 82 while senior Patrick Rennie (Bridgewater, MA) would claim 8th and fourth place for Worcester on a score of 87. Claiming the last spot for the Lancers was sophomore Jonathan Wasserman (Salem, MA) with a score of 91. With each team sitting at 324 at the end of the round, a tie breaker would be instituted that would provide Worcester the win on the day.
Worcester State is back in action next Wednesday when they head to the Brett Williamson meet hosted by Westfield State with a start time set for 10am.
