Worcester, MA --- This weekend is the New England Division III
regional’s where both indoor track teams will have a good
showing for the postseason in representing both the MASCAC and
Worcester State College. The women will be traveling to Bowdoin
while the men’s meet is at MIT.
Senior captain Mark Johnson has qualified for four
events this indoor season with three of his best marks coming in
this past weekend at the MASCAC Championships. Johnson will run in
both the 55 meter dash (6.63) and the 200 (22.78) while in the
field he will compete in both the long (6.42m) and triple jumps
(13.14m).
Joining Johnson will be freshman Ian Fields, who
looks to improve upon his season mark of 1.86 meters in the high
jump and his time in the 400 meter dash (51.16). Fields and Johnson
will also join Chris Mancuso and Robert
Stahelski in the 4 x 400 relay. Senior
Senior Matt Leeds and junior James
Macera will also compete in the triple jump (12.96m) and
weight throw (15.19m), respectively, to round out the participants
for the men. Macera has set the standard required for the
ECAC’s in his event and his distance is ranked ninth among
New England Regional competitors.
The women’s team is paced by freshman classmates
Sarah Rafferty and Mara Kralian,
who will each competing in the 55 meter dash (7.59/7.58), the 200
(27.17/26.92) and the long jump (4.76m/5.01m). Sophomore
Becky Galipeau will also compete in the 55 (7.50),
the long jump (5.06m) and the high jump (1.5m) as well.
Sophomore Andrea Ouellette successfully defended
her MASCAC triple jump title with a season-best leap of 10.96 last
week as she will compete in that event while she will also run in
the 55 meter hurdles (9.37). In addition, junior Kara
Antrim will try to best her time in the 1000 while
sophomore Christina Bisbee will attempt to toss
her best throw in the weight throw (12.73m).
In relay action, the 4x200 team of Kralian, Rafferty, Galipeau and
freshman Andrea Lisaki look to earn a better time
than 1:50.20, which was clocked last week. The mark reset the
school record for the second time this season. The 4x800 team of
freshman classmates Rachael Baker, Meg
Plant and Maura Withington with sophomore
Rachael Sullivan will try to make an attempt to
run raster than 10:46.07 and qualify for the ECACs.
Results will be posted on the website after 5 PM on Saturday
afternoon.
