Boston, MA --- Senior captain Mark Johnson
(Woburn, MA) ran the meet of his career to take the top spot as he
helped the Worcester State indoor track team place 11th scoring 17
of the teams 20 points at the New England Division III
regional’s hosted by MIT.
Johnson earned New England Division III honors as he took the top
spot in the 200 (22.37), placed fourth in the 55 meter dash (6.58)
and eighth in the long jump (21-01.25). Johnson also helped the 4 x
400 relay team of freshman Ian Fields (Shrewsbury,
MA), sophomore Robert Stahelski (S. Deerfield, MA)
and senior Chris Mancuso (Rowley, MA) claim
seventh with a time of 3:29.32.
Fields earned All-Regional honors as well as he placed eighth in
the 400 (51.70) and tied for seventh in the high jump
(5-11.50).
Senior Matt Leeds (Bellingham, MA) and junior
James Macera (Paxton, MA) each finished 16th in
the long jump (40-08.25) and 14th in the weight throw (44-09.75),
respectively.
Williams won the meet with 145 total points while Tufts and host
MIT tied for second (104) followed by Bowdoin (54). Local rival WPI
landed its highest total ever in sixth while last weeks MASCAC
conference champion Westfield State placed 14th.
Select members of the men’s indoor track team will compete
next week at the All-New England Regionals hosted by Boston
University.
