Six Men's Track & Field Student-Athletes Qualify for Division III New England’s at Tufts Stampede

MEDFORD, Mass. – Six men's indoor track & field student-athletes qualified for Division III New England's in their respective events this weekend on the campus of Tufts University for their annual Stampede.

 

Duy Truong (Worcester, Mass.) participated in a heptathlon on Friday where he overall came in second after nailing two first place finishes, a second place finish, and a third place finish in four out of the seven events. Truong topped the 60 Meter Dash, along with the 60 Meter Hurdles. He also executed well in the long jump and shot put events where he came in second and third, respectively, out of the 13 competitors. With the second place finish, Truong qualified for Division III New England's.

 

Worcester State shined in the shot put event, as four Lancers were in the top 10 and all qualified for Division III New England's – one of which also qualified for ECAC's. Sam Weeks (Methuen, Mass.) filed in at second place with a finals distance of 14.90m, qualifying him in both New England and ECAC categories. Marcus Vieira (Peabody, Mass.), Jacob Roumanos (Whitman, Mass.), and Anthony Christo (Peabody, Mass.) came in at the seventh, eighth, and ninth spots, respectively, to all qualify for Division III New England's.

 

Vieira led the Lancers in the weight throw, as he registered a 15.91m distance, qualifying him for both Division III New England's and also ECAC's. Weeks came in at fifth, and Christo came in at sixth with a distance of 14.99m to qualify him for Division III New England's.

 

Another qualifier was Elijah Mawejje (Woburn, Mass.) who captured second place with a 1.88m distance in the men's high jump. Markiesh Harmon (Leominster, Mass.) and Daniel Ross (Foxboro, Mass.) came in sixth and seventh places, respectively. Harmon excelled in the long jump with a second place finish with a finals distance of 6.46m. Mawejje came in sixth with a distance of 6.15m.

 

Ryan Connolly (Braintree, Mass.) and Andre Ipojuca (Saugus, Mass.) placed seventh and eighth in the men's triple jump, while Scott Page (Baldwinville, Mass.) came in eighth in the pole vault event. Page also took an eighth place finish in the 60 Meter Hurdles with a time of 9.76 in the finals round.

 

The Lancers topped the 4x200 Meter Relay with a team of Benjamin Dussault (Assonet, Mass.), Anthony Lawson (Randolph, Mass.), Andre Luciano (Milford, Mass.), and Jared Barros (Taunton, Mass.) for a finish of 1:32.48. Another squad came in at second in the same event, while a group of Lancers placed 5th in the 4x400 Meter Relay.

 

The team travels to Connecticut next weekend for the Wesleyan Invitational #2.
