4x100 Relay, Sprints, Throwers Shine For Men's Track At Holy Cross Quad Meet

 

Worcester, MA --- The 4x100 meter relay team of junior Duy Truong (Worcester, MA/Doherty), senior Todd Paquin (Pelham, NH), junior Matthew Alley (Milford, MA) and classmate Terrence Gibson (Rockland, MA) placed first and set school record as the Worcester State men's track and field team finished third at the Holy Cross Quad meet on Tuesday.

Rhode Island won the meet with 173 points followed by Holy Cross (165), the Lancers sum of 142 and New Hampshire (116).

The 4x100 meter relay team timed 41.61, defeated the runner-up URI squad (41.71) and is now tied for the eighth fastest time in Division III with Washington and Lee. Greenville leads the nation with a time of 41.16.

Junior Matthew Begley (E. Bridgewater, MA) won the javelin (169-9/51.73m), placed second in the discus (135-7/41.34m) and fourth in the shot put (44-0.50/13.42m) while Paquin was second in the 100 meters (10.85) with an Open New England qualifier.

Senior Andrew Johnson (Thompson, CT) also topped the high jump field (6-4/1.93m) while junior Shawn Seamans (Newton, MA) was second in the triple Jump (40-7.75/12.39m) for a new collegiate best and third in the long jump (19-9.50/6.03m).

Others who stamped their ticket for the Open New England Championships included Barros who was third in the 200 (22.07) and fourth in the 100 (11.02), Truong who was fifth in the 100 (11.03) and freshman Franklin Dallas (New London, CT) notched sixth in the 200 (22.27).

Truong also added fourth in the 110 meter hurdles (15.29) while junior Stephen Gannon (Mansfield, MA) timed fifth in the 400 (50.05) to stamp his ticket to the ECAC Division III Championships and it marked the fastest split in the MASCAC as if this evening.

Alley registered sixth in the 100 (11.18) , senior Ramses Rafael (Lawrence, MA) placed eighth in the 200 (22.48) followed by fourth-year teammate Kevin Maciel (Tewksbury, MA) who finished eighth in the 400 meter hurdles (58.71).

Other strong performances among the throws included freshman Sam Weeks (Methuen, MA) recorded third in the shot put (45-1/13.76m), fourth in the discus (133-9/40.78m) and sixth in the hammer (136-9/41.68m) for a new personal best while senior Shawn McCabe (Mansfield, MA) placed sixth in the shot put (42-4.75/12.92m) and eighth in the hammer (129-4/39.42m).

Third-year Dan Ross (Foxboro, MA) cleared third in the high jump (6-2/1.88m) and freshman Isaac Ofori (Worcester, MA/North) wasn't far behind in fourth (5-10/1.78m). Junior Mario De Jesus (Lawrence, MA) tossed third in the javelin (157-6/48.01m) as sophomore James Brodeur (Milford, MA) kept pace with fourth (153-4/46.73m).

Freshman Tyler Nims (Ashburnham, MA) placed fourth in the long jump and sophomore Dana Perry (Mendon, MA) distinguished himself with fourth in the long jump (19-5.50/5.93m) and fifth in the triple jump (39-9.75/12.31m) followed by freshman Andrew Valle (Stoughton, MA) who was sixth in the triple jump (39-1.25/11.92m).

Junior Robert White (Ludlow, MA) tallied seventh in the hammer (131-0/39.93m) while sophomore Ryan Filliger (Haverhill, MA) finished eighth in the discus (118-1/35.93m).

Senior Steve Fleming (Ludlow, MA) went eighth in the pole vault (12-9.50/3.90m).

Today's meet was a warm-up to the MASCAC/New England Alliance Championships on Saturday at UMass Dartmouth.
