Wise, Deininger Lead Women's Indoor Track At Harvard Open

Cambridge, MA --- Sophomore Christy Deininger (N. Attleboro, MA) and junior Briana Wise (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) both qualified for the Open New England Championships to help pace the Worcester State women's indoor track and field team at the non-scoring Harvard Open this afternoon.

Competition featured teams from all three divisions in New England and several club teams.

Wise had a top finish in the 200 (25.58) for the fifth-highest time in all divisions of New England thus far season as she also added a ninth-place time of 7.95 in the 60. Wise's time in the 200 also broke her own school record that she set as a freshman when she ran 26.00 at the All-New England Championships.

Deininger eclipsed the school record finishing in seventh in the 60 meter hurdles with a split of 9.44 as she also added a time of 7.95 in the 60 meters for eighth overall. The previous mark was held by Cathy Chude as she sprinted to a new school record during the 2009 season of 9.51 at that years meet at Harvard.

Senior Mara Kralian (N. Grafton, MA) had a leap of sixth (5.20 meters/17-0.50 ft) in the long jump and freshman Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) added a toss of fifth (11.72m/38-5.25) in the shot put to qualify for the ECAC Division III Championships.

Sophomore Megan Taylor (Danvers, MA) tallied ninth in the 400 (1:01.23) to stamp her ticket to the Division III New England Championships as freshman Brittany Hodgerney (Leicester, MA) added her name to the list of entrants with 15th in the 200 (26:83).

Fourth-year Sarah Rafferty (Uxbridge, MA) and Kralian both chipped in with 22nd (27.00) and 24th (27.16) in the 200. Freshman Kim West (Harvard, MA) tacked on 23rd in the 400 (1:03.10) as classmate Therese Morss (Marion, MA) had a solid pre-qualifying time in the 60 meter hurdles (9.85) before settling for 14th in the finals (9.98).

The field was also paced by first-year Amanda Caldarone (Danvers, MA) who notched seventh in the long jump (5.10m/16-8.75) and sophomore Hannah Werneth (N. Yarmouth, MA) recorded eighth in the in the shot put (11.38m/37-4).

Second-year Amanda Holden (Lunenburg, MA) cleared ninth in the high jump (1.50m/4-11) as classmate Marlene Christenson (Danvers, MA) registered 16th in the weight throw (11.57m/37-11.50).

Junior Erin Donohue (Saugus, MA), sophomore Ali Barrett (Hingham, MA) and third-year Brittany Grueter (Foxboro, MA) all placed 13th (11:05.48), 15th (11:17.98) and 18th (11:26.93) for the Blue and Gold in the 3,000 respectively.

Second-year Kelsey Cartwright (Bridgewater, MA) finished 15th in the mile (5:46.26) while teammate Alison Hickey (Easton, MA) was 18th in the 800 (2:31.21).

The 4x440 yard relay team of West, Taylor, Hodgerney and Alexandria McMahon (E. Longmeadow, MA) combined for a time of 4:08.27, which is 4:08.47 when converted to a 4x400 meter time, just 33 seconds off of the school record.

The Lancers will compete again next semester at the Tufts Snowflake Invitational on January 14.
