Women Race to Top Spots at Wheaton Pre-Post Season Invitational

Worcester, MA- The Women's Indoor Track team travelled to Wheaton on Saturday to compete in the Pre-Post Season Invitational. The Women were led by dominant performances by senior Elena Pellegrini (Ashland, MA), first year Erin Condon (East Bridgewater, MA), senior Bridget Maunsell (West Boylston, MA), senior Maureen Grady (Douglas, MA), junior Eryca Lopes (Ayer, MA).

Lopes and Grady led the force for Worcester State with their dominant performances in the jumping events today. Grady landed a 2nd place finish with a 4.91m jump in the long jump, teammate Lopes came in 10th with her 4.47m jump. Lopes had a dominant performance of her own in the triple jump leaping to a distance of 9.67m for a 7th place finish.

Condon turned on the jets in her 400m dash on the afternoon crossing in a time of 64.32 seconds for a 3rd place finish while teammate senior Heather Turner (Ashland, MA) was close behind with a time of 65.84 seconds and an 8th place finish. The Lancers stacked the races in the 60m with Grady, Pellegrini, Maunsell and Lopes showing impressive speed with Pellegrini leading the pack an 8.28 second spring for 9th, and Grady and Maunsell coming in 12th and 13th with times of 8.29 and 8.42 with Lopes closing out the quartet with an 8.66 for 19th. Three of the four speed pack took the track along with Turner to compete in the 4x200 that saw the team place second with a time of 1:52.68. Pellegrini and Maunsell made it a trio of events on the day when they raced in the 200m dash. Pellegrini grabbed another 9th place finish with a time of 27.64 while Maunsell brought home a 15th after crossing with a time of 28.47 seconds.

On the distance front for the women, seniors Erica Hanlon (Shrewsbury, MA) and Caitlin Conneely (Tewksbury, MA) put in the work to cross in times of 12:12.60 for Hanlon, and a 23rd place finish, and 12:45.57 for a 29th place finish for Conneely.

The Lancers Track team is back in action next Friday at the New England DIII Championship where the 4x200 team is expected to compete.
