Women's Volleyball Clipped by Elms

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Worcester State University women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 defeat to Elms College Thursday evening in non-conference action at John P. Brissette Court. Set scores were 25-23, 25, 23, 25-14.

With the loss, Worcester State drops to 5-13 overall on the season. Elms hops to 9-7 overall.

The first set went back and forth between the Blazers and Lancers, with seven ties and three lead changes throughout the set. Elms looked sharp offensively with 15 kills in the set, led by seven from Jaylianne Ramos. Worcester State was led in th eset by sophomore Natalie Gillis (Ashland, Mass.), who recorded five kills. The Blazers closed out the set on a kill from Dakota Stewart.

Elms won the first five points of the second set and were able to hold on to take a commanding 2-0 lead. The Lancers came back from as many as seven points down to tie the set at 23-23, but back-to-back Natalia Caraballo kills won the set for the visitors.

The third and final set was all Blazers right from the start as Elms was able to complete the sweep. Worcester State struggled offensively in the set with an attack percentage of -.097 with five kills and eight errors.

Ramos was the match's leader with 16 kills on the evening, while Worcester State was led by Gillis with 11. Kianna Lozada led all players with 12 digs for the Blazers, while Blazer Hannah Adams and Lancer Brooke Lamothe (Tewksbury, Mass.) each had 10.

Worcester State will be back in action on Saturday with a doubleheader at Wellesley against the host Blue and FDU-Florham. First serves for the two matches are set for 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
