Vieira and Gibson Earn MASCAC Track & Field Weekly Accolades

WORCESTER, Mass. – Worcester State University’ sophomore Marcus Vieira (Peabody, Mass.) and freshman Jalil Gibson (Lynn, Mass.) both earned Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) weekly awards, as announced by the league Monday afternoon.

 

Vieira was named the MASCAC Field Athlete of the Week as he finished second (top collegiate performer) in the hammer throw (50.31m) and came in third and seventh, respectively, in the discus (43.99m) and shot put (13.49m) at the AIC Yellow Jacket Invitational. He is currently ranked third in the hammer and sixth in discus among New England performers.

 

Gibson, a freshman sprinter, was named the MASCAC Rookie of the Week as he finished fourth in the 100 Meter Dash with a time of 11.19 seconds and 16th in the 200 Meter Dash at the cross-divisional AIC Yellow Jacket Invitational.

 

Next up, the men’s outdoor track & field team will travel to Fitchburg State on Saturday (Apr. 15).
