Andrews, Ashley Garner MASCAC Weekly Football Honors

WESTFIELD, Mass. - The Worcester State University football team claimed three out of four possible Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference weekly football honors on Sunday, capping off a week that saw the Lancers pick up their first win of the season. Senior Dex Andrews (Dorchester, Mass.) was named the MASCAC Special Teams Player of the Week, while freshman Nicholas Ashley (Worcester, Mass.) was named both the MASCAC Rookie and Defensive Player of the Week.

In the Lancers' 23-19 win over Becker College on Saturday, Andrews registered 94 yards on three kickoff returns (31.3 yards per return) while adding 94 yards on 16 rushes for 188 all-purpose yards.

Ashley garned his awards after his second straight big week for the Lancers. Ashley led the Lancers with 11 tackles, including two tackles for a loss of two yards, and two pass breakups in the 23-19 victory over Becker College. Ashley was a key part of the Lancer defense that held Becker to just 105 yards passing in the Worcester State victory.

Andrews, Ashley, and the rest of the Worcester State football team will be back in action on Saturday when the Lancers travel to Fitchburg State for a MASCAC battle against the Falcons. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
