Hassell, Korbey Each Named WACBA Rookie of the Week

WORCESTER, Mass. - A day after each being named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Rookies of the Week, freshmen Eddie Hassell (Milton, Mass.) and Calli Korbey (Hopkinton, Mass.) of the Worcester State University basketball teams have been named the men's and women's Rookies of the Week by the Worcester Area College Basketball Association.

It is Hassell's second WACBA Rookie of the Week Award of the season, while Korbey earns her first WACBA honor.

Hassell, the three-time reigning MASCAC Rookie of the Week, had another solid week for the Lancers coming off the bench, averaging seven points and four rebounds in two games to help his team to a pair of victories. Hassell shot 5-for-11 from the floor on the week (46 percent).

Korbey lit it up from three-point land last Saturday to help the Lancers pick up a 66-58 non-conference win over Keene State. The rookie was 4-for-9 from distance, finishing with 18 points, six rebounds, and four assists in the win, as she averaged 11.5 points per game on the week.

Hassell's men's team is back in action on Wednesday night, as the Lancers take on Skidmore College on the road at 6 p.m. Korbey's women's basketball squad next takes the floor on the road against Springfield on December 11.
