Alex Santos Earns Third MASCAC Rookie of the Week Award

WORCESTER, Mass. – Worcester State University’s freshman guard, Alex Santos (Lawrence, Mass.) was named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Rookie of the Week on Monday (Jan. 4) for his contribution in a 3-0 week for the Lancers. This is Santos’ third time - second consecutive - this season earning this accolade.

This past week, Santos averaged 16.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.7 assists for Worcester State. "It was another solid week for him," said head coach David Lindberg. "He is starting to be very consistent game in and game out which is always a hard thing for a first-year player."

He finished with 13 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and a steal in the 61-58 victory over Roger Williams. He then netted 18 points with four rebounds, three assists, and four steals while shooting 80 percent (4-5) from three-point range in the 81-66 win over Wentworth. "His performance from behind the arc in the Wentworth game was a huge boost," stated Lindberg.

This weekend, Santos tallied 19 points, five rebounds, and two steals in the 93-89 win over Gordon College.

Santos is currently averaging 11.3 points per game, and will look to keep scoring on the floor as the Lancers take on their first MASCAC opponent, MCLA, this Wednesday at Clark University.

"Alex is playing with a lot of confidence right now heading into conference play," said Lindberg.
