Buzzards Bay, MA --- 118 Worcester State student-athletes have been named to the 2008-09 MASCAC All-Academic Team as announced by Media Relations Director Jim Seavey earlier last month. Nearly 750 total student-athletes were honored by the conference overall as the Lancers had the third-most student-athletes earn the prestigious accolade.
Student-athletes that compete in all varsity sports offered by each of the eight MASCAC institutions and have achieved a 3.20 cumulative or semester-based grade point average during the course of the recently completed academic year are eligible for selection to the All-Academic Team. This year's team represents an increase of 123 student-athletes that earned MASCAC All-Academic accolades in 2007-08, as 617 individuals earned the honor last year.
Worcester State's total of 118 student-athletes is also an increase of 24 as 94 received the nod to the squad last academic year. Next season the MASCAC will honor its student-athletes after every season instead every honoree at the end of the year.
Entering its 39th year of existence, the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference is comprised of eight NCAA Division III member institutions: Bridgewater State College, Fitchburg State College, Framingham State College, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State College, Westfield State College and Worcester State College.
