In last nights 87-76 triumph against Nichols, senior Maurice Horton notched his 19th career double-double with 25 points and 15 rebounds. Junior Ryan Testagrossa and freshman Tim Henault each chipped in with 14 and 13 points, respectively, as the pair added five made three pointers.
WPI's 85-50 victory against Becker, the Engineers won their 13th straight Worcester County Classic game as they were led by junior Jeff Robinson's 28 points, eight boards and five assists. Classmate Ben Etten also notched 20 points and five caroms while he also handed out five dishes.
Both teams held off late comebacks yesterday to advance to the championship game. Up 18 with 12:52 to play, Becker outscored WPI 32-17 in a span of 11 minutes to trail by just five, but Robinson scored five of the last eight Engineer points of the game to seal the win.
Worcester State was up 69-52 at the 7:44 mark in the second half to play before Nichols went on a 20-6 spurt to close the gap to 75-66 with 3:40 left. Both teams turned the ball over three straight times before WSC took control and brough the lead back up to 10 and converted 9 of 12 shots from the free throw line to cruise ahead for the triumph.
The Crimson and Gray have won their last four matchups against Worcester State and they hold a 16-12 all-time edge. The Lancers won their last contest against the Boynton Hillers in an 87-68 triumph in the 2002-03 season.
