Associate Head Coach Dave Wigren has been at Worcester State since 2000, and now has over 40 years of coaching experience.  In 2018, he was nominated for New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association Assistant Coach of the Year, and in 2019 won the prestigeous award. 

His primary duties are the infielders and bench coach, but he also oversees the fall tryouts, player 1-on-1s, and organizing the Florida trip and golf tournament. He has coached in the in three ECAC, six NCAA and 14 MASCAC Tournaments. This has included eight trips to the MASCAC Finals and two ECAC Finals.

As of 2019, Wigren has been involved in nearly 450 wins at Worcester State. All seven Lancer MASCAC Players of the Year were coached by Wigren including over 50 First Team All-MASCAC selections, five All-Americans, and three MLB draft picks (Tim Stronach, Nate Nelson, and Ben Libuda).

Highlights of his coaching include Bear Dunn earning All-MASCAC as both a pitcher and first baseman in 2005, Zac Attaway winning three All-Conference awards as infielder, Dave Ruggiero and Jeff LaHair winning the MASCAC Tournament Most Valuable Player awards, and double play combos Ryan LaPrade and TJ Magnell (2010) and Matt Heenan and Tim Leonard (2001) being All-MASCAC in the same season. Heenan was the starting second baseman at the 2002 Fenway All-Star Game.

As the glue to the team, Wigren has been instrumental in every championship season run since 2000 which has included six MASCAC regular season titles and six Tournament Titles. Dave also coached locally with WPI (1994-96) and Clark where the team set a school record for wins in a season (1997-99). He twice coached in the Senior Babe Ruth World Series (1994 and 2000) as head coach at Northboro High School, and was a coach with East Side Legion. He has volunteered coaching the Bay State Games Central squad every year since 2008.

Wigren has been instrumental in organizing all of the Lancer youth clinics, fundraising, and promoting the program throughout the area. Dave was honored in 2001 for his 20+ years of volunteer work in the PNJ League. A father of four and grandfather of 12, Dave lives in Worcester with his wife Karyn, who works full-time at Worcester and earned her undergraduate degree in business. His children are Nicole, Danielle, Cassandra, and JaredIn 2008, Dave and Karyn were honored with the Hickey Dedication Award.
