Buzzards Bay, MA --- For the fourth time in his career and the
second time this season, Maurice Horton (Detroit,
MI) has been named MASCAC Men's Basketball Player in the Week for
his outstanding play this past week for the Lancers.
Horton averaged 23 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists while
totaling 5 steals and 4 blocks in three victories for WSC.
Horton started off the week registering 28 points, 9 boards and 8
assists in a 77-68 triumph against Southern Maine in the
consolation game of the Purple & Gold tournament before he
tallied 19 points and 13 rebounds in a mid-week matchup in a 72-54
win against Salve Regina. He capped off the week notching 23 points
and 17 caroms in a 85-71 conference opening victory against
MCLA.
Horton also shot 57 percent (26-for-46) for the week and all three
of his points and rebounding totals were game highs.
The senior forward currently leads the MASCAC in points (22.3),
total points (268), assists (6.08) and total assists (73) while he
is second in rebounding (10.0), total boards (120) and blocks
(1.50). Horton is also eighth in field goal percentage (.689) and 3
point field goal percentage (.340).
As of last week Horton was ranked 21st in the NCAA in points
(22.0) and 12th assists (6.1). Since transferring from Quinsigamond
Community College, Horton has compiled totals of 865 points and 380
rebounds in 38 games for averages of 22.7 and 10 in each
category.
Worcester State (6-6, 1-0 MASCAC) will play three games in the
next week starting with Westfield State on Tuesday at 8 PM.
