Buzzards Bay, MA --- For the third time this season and the
second straight week, Maurice Horton has been
selected MASCAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for his
stellar contributions as the Lancers posted a 2-1 week.
Horton averaged 21.6 points, 9.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists
including 21 points in an 83-73 victory over Framingham State to go
along with 27 points and 13 boards in a 93-90 triple overtime win
over Anna Maria. Horton started off the week with 17 points and 10
caroms in a 76-56 setback to Westfield State.
The senior forward, who hails from Detroit, is currently leading
the MASCAC in points (333), total points (22.2), assists (89),
total assists (5.93) while he is also second in rebounds (9.9),
total boards (148) and minutes played (35). Horton is also sixth in
free throw shooting (.689), seventh in the conference in
three-point shooting (.333) and 13th in field goal percentage
(.456).
This past week Horton was ranked 12th in the NCAA Division III in
points (22.3) and assists (6.08) while he was also 29th in
rebounding (10.0). Horton is only 70 points away from the 1,000
point career milestone as he has a two-year total of 930.
Worcester State is currently 8-7 overall and 2-1 in the MASCAC
under 16th year head coach Dave Lindberg. The Lancers have two
conference games in the next week including a visit to Fitchburg
State on Tuesday at 7:30 and a home game against Bridgewater State
on Thursday at 8 PM.
