NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College men's basketball team never trailed in its 83-71 defeat of Worcester State on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference match-up in Emerson Gymnasium.

Wheaton (4-3) was led by a game-high 21 points and 11 rebounds from Quinton Dale. The senior, who collected his NCAA leading sixth double-double of the season, finished 8-of-9 from the floor, which included a perfect 4-for-4 performance from three-point range, while draining 1-of-2 from the free-throw line. Dale also ended the contest with a game-high five blocks. Sophomore David Carbonello finished with 18 points on a 5-for-6 night, while Ryan Fogarty contributed 16 points in the victory.

Jamal Mustapha and Cory Gatta each knocked down 16 points for the Lances (0-6), while Marquez McKreith-Collins scored 13 points off the bench. Mustapha led Worcester State with seven boards and three steals.

Wheaton took the lead out of the gate and never looked back, starting with a layup from Fogarty two minutes in. The Lyons followed the basket with a 9-1 run with baskets from Carbonello, Fogarty and Dale. Aaron Anniballi cut the Lancer deficit in half, 16-8, with a transition three-pointer with 11:13 to play in the half. Despite the Worcester State baskets, Wheaton continued to push the pace, taking a 46-29 lead into the locker room.

The Lyons kept the Lancers at a safe distance, never allowing them to pull within single digits the remainder of the game. With the comfortable advantage, Wheaton utilized its bench, sending in 14 of its 16 players. The bench contributed 24 of Wheaton's 83 points.

The Lancers return to action on Tuesday (Dec. 6) when they travel to UMass-Dartmouth for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
