Second Half Success Pushes Lancers Past Golden Bears

Worcester MA- After splitting 2 games in a tournament style competition at Williams College over this past weekend, Worcester State took to the road again for another non-conference matchup before the Thanksgiving break at Western New England.

Final Score:

Worcester State: 76

Western New England: 67

Recap:

In the first half of play the Lancers started off slow on both sides of the ball as the Golden Bears began the game on a 15-3 run before Worcester State could gain any traction in the matchup. Western New England maintained control of the game throughout the first half of play and held the 36-33 advantage on the scoreboard led by seniors Mike Resnick (Scituate,RI) and Gavin's Greene (Monroe,CT) who both chipped in with 8 points apiece while junior Aaron Nkrumah (Worcester,Mass) had 12 points for Worcester State and senior Ryan Rubenskas (Bridgewater,Mass) added 5 rebounds for the Lancers.

The second half was a different story as the Lancers battled back and eventually took the lead but the hosts would not let up easily with the score changing leads multiple times before the Lancers were able to finally pull away with the victory. Nkrumah had a team-high 22 points while Rubenskas added 18 points and 10 rebounds, for a double-double, and three blocks to lead the Lancers to the win. Resnick led all scorers with 23 points and junior Jake Harrison (South Boston,Mass) added 14 points as well for the Golden Bears.

Worcester State now improves to 3-3,0-0, and will travel to Wesleyan University next Tuesday for another non-conference matchup, tip-off set for 7pm.
