
Worcester, MA - Worcester State University Men's Basketball has announced their 2023-24 season schedule. Tyler Hundley, and the current MASCAC Champions, returns for his fifth season as the head coach of the Lancer squad. The Lancers finished with a 22-6 (12-0, MASCAC) record and as the #1 seed in the MASCAC Tournament last season. Worcester State looks to continue to begin to defend their MASCAC when they open conference play on January 6 at Fitchburg State. The Lancers return an all-star cast headed by juniors Aaron Nkrumah, who was the MASCAC Player of the Year and D3hoops.com Region 1 Rookie of the Year, and Ryan Rubenskas who was a MASCAC 2nd Team selection last season. They will be joined by a talented cast of returners and incoming talent to the program.
"We have a veteran core group this season and will lean on their leadership to hopefully take our program another step in the right direction" says Hundley. "We also have a few newcomers who we expect to have an impact. Our focus early in the season will be on making sure we are consistent each day to improve individually and collectively. We will play an exciting brand of basketball and we hope to see everyone at midnight on November 8th."
The season kicks off at 12:01am on Brissette Court on November 8th when Worcester State welcomes the WPI Engineers for a midnight madness game to kick off the Basketball season. The Lancers then travel on November 11th to Wentworth before returning home on the 14th for a match up with Plymouth State. The Lancers will remain on the road for the rest of November as they first journey to Williams for the Williams Tournament on 17th and 18th prior to a 21st trip to Western New England and closing out the month with a trip to Connecticut to take on Wesleyan on the 28th.
Worcester State spreads out their five games in December, hosting Emerson and Lasell on the 2nd and 9th. The 6th will see them on the road at Regis before post-Christmas travel sends the Lancers to Virginia to Roanoke College to compete in the Cregger Invitational on the 29th and 30th.
With a new year in the books, the Lancers begin their MASCAC title defense, traveling to Fitchburg State on January 6th to open their conference slate. Worcester will remain home for a three-game stretch that sees the first go of the MASCAC Championship rematch with Westfield, January 10th, Bridgewater, January 13th and one last out of conference matchup, that will bring Trinity to Worcester on the 15th. Worcester then begins a cycle of two away-two home games for the rest of the season that sees them travel to Salem St, January 17th, Framingham State, January 20th, a rematch with Westfield on February 3rd, and Bridgewater on February 7th before the final game of the season on February 17th versus MCLA. During this stretch the Lancers will find themselves hosting MCLA, January 24th, Fitchburg State, January 31st, Salem State, February 10th and senior night on February 14th versus Framingham State.
