Salem State Takes Captures 12th MASCAC Championship

Sutton, MA --- Salem State junior Nick Zolotas (Peabody, MA), classmate William Connell (Billerica, MA) and sophomore Matt Sebet (Westwood, MA) captured three of the top five spots to help lead the Vikings to their 12th MASCAC Men’s Golf Tournament Championship this afternoon at the par 72 Blackstone National Golf Course.

Last year the conference decided to restart the championship after a 19-year hiatus. Salem State successfully defended the crown they won last spring as they posted a team score of 313.

Westfield State finished in second totaling 332 strokes while Worcester State was seven strokes behind in third (339). MCLA placed fourth as they tallied a card of 344.

Zolotas was distinguished with medalist honors with a low-round score of 69 (-3). Connell tied with MCLA senior Adam Ciborowski (W. Springfield, MA) and freshman Tyler LaBonte (Brewster, MA) of Westfield State for second with a 78 (+6) as Sebet placed fifth with an 80 (+8).

Third-year Shane Ortega (Pittsfield, MA) of MCLA posted sixth (80, +8) while senior TJ Magnell (Leominster, MA) of Worcester State copped seventh (82, +10). Senior Brett Williamson (Ludlow, MA) of Westfield State finished eighth overall (83, +11).

The top ten was rounded out by sophomore Jeff Gaudet (Lynn, MA) of Westfield State and fourth-year Mike Horan (Billerica, MA) of Worcester State who tied for ninth with an 85 (+13).
