Lancers Fall in Third in New Year Return to Action

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Men's Ice Hockey team (5-5-1, 2-2-1) is back in action for 2025 as they journey to UMass-Dartmouth to take on the Corsairs in their first conference game of the new year. Worcester is looking to extend their four game win streak to five tonight as they captured the victory over NE-10's Southern New Hampshire to wrap up 2024.

Final

Worcester State: 1

UMass-Dartmouth: 4

How it Happened:

First period action saw both teams working to cut their skates on the ice and get the action started. While both sides would have their chances to start the scoring, and Worcester ending the period in a power play, the first was devoid of major offensive action. This stalemate would hold until nearly halfway through the second when the Corsairs were able to corral a save of a Lancers attempt and quickly transitioned down the ice finding the gap and the Worcester defense to take a 1-0 lead. With a resolidified defense on both sides, the one score would be the only lapse in a strong defensive performance thus far in the game.

The third period found offense as the name of the game with the Corsairs grabbing two additional goals within the first nine minutes. Worcester would capitalize on a roughing penalty with just under seven minutes to go as sophomore Matthew Nuzzolilo (Worcester, MA) found the back of the net off the rebound shot of graduate student Brian Clougherty (Lynn, MA) and the quick pass of sophomore Maximilian Hussar (New Canaan, CT) to cut the Dartmouth lead to just two. A penalty just over a minute later though would find the Corsairs reset the distance to three and with a concentrated defensive effort held off the Lancer wave to grab the 4-1 victory.

Senior Jakub Kubik (Uherske Hradiste, Czech Republic) would wrap up the performance with 40 saves.
