Box Score

Danbury, CT ---  After a scoreless first half, Western Connecticut State University scored twice in the opening 10 minutes of the second half to post a 2-0 non-conference win over Worcester State College at the Westside Athletic Complex Wednesday evening.

In the first half of play, WestConn outshot Worcester State 12-7, but the only drama came with about 1:30 left in the half. WestConn's goal keeper, Dan Michalowski (Bristol, CT), was off target on a long pass to the midfield and was 20 yards away from the goal crease when the ball was intercepted by Worcester State midfielder, Constantino Patramanis (Worcester, MA).  Patramanis lofted a high arcing shot that appeared headed for the WestConn goal, but a sprinting Michalowski managed to get one hand on the ball and deflect it just enough to send it wide right.

Less than two minutes into the second half, WestConn's Dennis Poulter (Waterbury, CT) took the ball through the Lancer defense on the right side, but was taken down from behind by a Worcester State defender about 10 yards from the goal.  A penalty shot was awarded to the Colonials and Michael Savenelli (East Haven, CT) converted the opportunity to give WestConn a 1-0 lead.  Daniel Sanchez (Caanan, CT) added an insurance goal for WestConn when he took a pass from Eren Ceylan (Danbury, CT) and beat the Worcester State goalie to make the score 2-0.

For the game, Michalowski recorded 4 saves for the Colonials who are now 6-6-1 on the season.  Daniel Hansen (Worcester, MA) had seven saves in goal for Worcester State, but suffers the loss.  There Lancers fall to 4-6-2 on the season.

WestConn hosts Little East Conference rival Plymouth State on Saturday afternoon, October 11.  Game time is slated for 1:00pm.
