Men's Soccer, MCLA Draw Even 0-0 In Double Overtime

North Adams, MA --- The MCLA Trailblazers and Worcester State Lancers played to a scoreless tie in the MASCAC opener for both teams today.

The game saw very few scoring opportunities during regulation as the teams combined for just seven shots on goal during that time. The game was a clean but physical contest throughout as the teams combined for twenty-nine fouls and there were five yellow cards given as well.

Worcester had a slight edge in play during regulation as MCLA junior keeper Dillon Wager (Amsterdam, NY) had to make all five of his saves during the first ninety minutes. Worcester State had their best chance late in the first half. Sophomore Alex Wolfel (Unionville, CT) ripped a shot from the left side towards the far post with ten minutes remaining in the half. Wager was able to stretch out to make the save and cover the rebound. Worcester outshot MCLA 6-4 in the first half.

The second half continued to be even in play, but MCLA began to wear down the Lancers as the game went on. MCLA took advantage of liberal subbing as ten players saw action off the bench for Coach Hildabrand.

MCLA had three good chances in overtime, but were unable to sneak one past Lancer senior goalie Evan Wilga (Dudley, MA). Their best chance came off the right foot of junior Joseph Mecca (Amsterdam, NY). Mecca fought through two defenders and put a shot over the challenging Wilga. The ball just sailed over the corner of the crossbar on the far side with just minutes remaining. Worcester didn't pot a shot in overtime.

Third-year Jake McCall (Lincoln, RI) also had chances as he put two on the net in the overtime sessions. Wolfel and senior Justin Biela (Bridgewater, MA) led the Lancers with two shots a piece on Wager. Both keepers made five stops apiece as Wilga had to make three in overtime.

MCLA and Worcester both start the MASCAC at 0-0-1. MCLA is 3-2-1 overall and Worcester is now 2-2-1. MCLA will host RPI Tuesday at 4:00 PM. Worcester will travel to Keene State Wednesday at 6:30 PM.
