Eight From Men's Soccer Recognized On Fall MASCAC All-Academic Team

Westfield, MA --- Worcester State men's soccer senior Brian Cormier (Hudson, MA), junior Emil Dedo (Worcester, MA) and sophomore classmates Nick Zucco (Ludlow, MA) and Andrew Miller (Norfolk, MA) highlight eight selections for the MASCAC Fall All-Academic Team as announced by conference publicist Emily Diekelmann.

For Cormier and Dedo, it marks the third time they have been recognized while Zucco and Miller make their second appearance on the team.

Other first time recipients included senior Derek Alves (Ludlow, MA), sophomore Alex Goncalves (Ludlow, MA) and freshman teammates Ben Graciani (Reveere, MA) and Tanner Bzdel (Southampton, MA).

The teams eight selections tied them for third in the conference for players represented.

To earn a spot on the MASCAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have achieved a 3.20 cumulative or semester based grade point average during their semester of competition.

Guided by fourth year head coach Jason Willis the Lancers finished the season with a 12-5-4 overall record and went beaten in conference play at 6-0-1. WSU won their eighth MASCAC regular season championship before falling to Bridgewater State in the tournament final.

The Lancers advanced to the ECAC semifinals after a 2-1 victory over Mount Ida in the quarterfinals, but were ousted by Lasell at Springfield College this past November.

Among institutions in the MASCAC, Worcester State had 78 overall selections on the league fall academic honor roll for the third highest total in the conference. The total number of WSU student-athletes also marked the highest since the league began listing its all-academic honor roll on a season-by-season basis during the 2009-10 academic year.
