Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Men's Soccer team (0-2, 0-0) is on the hunt for the first win of the season after two competitive early losses this season as they journey to Coast Guard in the afternoon. In the previous two games in the season, the Lancers have found plenty of action across the field and now aim to keep the momentum up for the full 90 to claim their first win of the season.
Final
Worcester State: 0
Coast Guard: 3
How it Happened:
The Lancers and the Bears would battle in back and forth during the full game of action as each squad worked to move the action up and down the field looking for a chance to sneak a shot past their opponent. Coast Guard would record their first scoring action of the game in the 15th minute that was sent high over the head of first year PJ Schmidt (Westwood, NJ). Just under 10 minutes later the Bears would find the next again, this time off a scrum and rebound in the center of the box that would see an initial diving save by Schmidt before the rebound would be sent high into the top corner of the goal out of reach. The first half scoring drive would close in the 27th minute as Coast Guard managed to tap in a third off a long reception from a goal kick on the opposite end of the pitch.
The third and final goal of the game would find each team buckled down in their defensive zones, refusing to give up another inch of ground to each other as the game became a midfield battle for the remainder of the half. The Bears would out shoot the Lancers in the first 12-1, with Schmmidt recording seven saves in the flurry.
This back and forth stalemate would continue into the second half where each team created an impenetrable wall around the cage to keep the score at 3-0 to close out the action. In a complete turn around from the first half, while the Bears were able to record a further six shot attempts the Lancers additionally found two more for themselves and forced the game into the open field and out of the box.
Schmidt would play the first 45 minutes of action while first year Sergio Torrado (Arroyomolinos, ES) would take over for the second recording three saves of his own.
