Worcester, MA- After a first stretch out west this past Tuesday, the Lancers Men's Soccer team (2-7-1, 1-1-1) is ready for their next trip, this time journeying to conference foe MCLA. Worcester aims to cross over the .500 conference record hump with a win today, which will help them gain some solid placement for the quickly approaching postseason.
Final
Worcester State: 1
MCLA: 0
How it Happened:
The opening half of action saw a balanced game between the Trailblazers and the Lancers. While MCLA claimed the first attempt at the cage, Worcester would claim the out corner attempt. The Trailblazers went on a spurge near the end of the first half but were unable to break the tie taking the 0-0 tie into the halftime break.
The second half continued much the same as the first until the Lancers grabbed an early lead not eight minutes into the action when senior Mal Hawkins (View Park, CA) would snatch the ball and send it sailing past the Trailblazer keeper to grab the 1-0 lead. The remainder of the second half saw each team battling for ground and Worcester aiming to expand their lead and provide a cushion for their defense. While both teams would attempt to add tallies to the scoreboard the Lancers defensive pressure was too much as sophomore Toby Schneider (Hudson, WI) would hold off the pressure for the game for shutout.
Schneider would end the game with seven saves on the night.
What's Next:
Worcester State (3-7-1, 2-1-1) will now have eight days in which to rest up and prepare for their next conference meeting, this time at home versus Framingham State at 4pm. The game is set to be this year's annual Rosen Cancer Awareness Fund Pink Out Game.
