Gorham, ME --- Sophomore Nate Starling
(Braintree, MA) captured the 55 meter hurdle title to set the
conference record in the event (7.78) while senior captain
Matt Leeds (Bellingham, MA) added a first place
finish in the long jump (6.50 meters) as they helped lead the Men's
Indoor Track team to a third place finish at the MASCAC
Championships this afternoon.
Westfield State won the meet with 217 points followed by Fitchburg
State’s total of 172 while the Lancers tallied 66. BSC added
58 while Salem State came in last with eight team points. In the
Alliance, with the Little East teams, WSC placed sixth with 38
points.
Senior James Macera (Paxton, MA) notched second in
the weight throw with a toss of 15.24 meters as junior
Robert Stahelski (S. Deerfield, MA) took home
second in the 600 meter run (1:24.64.).
Leeds and Starling’s finishes were good for second place in
the Alliance while Stahelski’s was in third and
Macera’s throw was fourth. Starling's time in the 55 meter
hurdles eclipsed the MASCAC record in the event as he broke former
Lancer and NCAA qualifier Jason Monette's previous
mark.
Sophomore Andrew Garcia (Brea, CA) pole vaulted
third with a height of 3.43 meter as Leeds and Starling each
registered fourth in the triple jump (12.84m) and 55 (6.68),
respectively. Second-year Ian Fields (Shrewsbury,
MA) earned All-MASCAC honors as he came in fifth in both the 400
(53.02) and high jump (1.81m).
In relay action Stahelski, Fields along with freshman teammates
Jon Parella (Wilmington, MA) and Julio
Arzu (Lynn, MA) finished third in the 4x400 relay
(3.39.72) while sophomore Justin Hunt (Rutland,
MA), along with first-year classmates Greg Babiec
(Worcester, MA/Doherty), Alex Droby (Uxbridge, MA)
and Tim Mazeika (Millbury, MA) placed fourth in
the 4x800 meter relay.
Next week the Lancers are back in action as select members compete
at the Division III New England’s hosted by Bates this
Saturday.
