Men's Indoor Track Finishes Fifth Overall At Tufts Invitational

 

Medford, MA --- Junior Stephen Gannon (Mansfield, MA) placed third in both the 200 meters (23.37) and 400 meters (51.04) while he anchored the third place 4x400 meter relay team as he helped propel the men's indoor track and field team to finish fifth as a team at the Tufts Invitational on Saturday.

The host Jumbos won the meet with 125 points as they beat out Amherst for the top spot (101). UMass Dartmouth (88), Bridgewater State (86.5) and the Lancers (85.5) rounded out the top five.

Junior Duy Truong (Worcester, MA/Doherty) also had a solid day with the top time in the 60 meter hurdle trials (8.49) for an Open New England standard before he settled for third in the hurdles (8.63). Truong was also seventh in the 60 (7.20).

Third-year Robert White (Ludlow, MA) paced the field events as the top collegiate finisher in the weight throw as he bettered his Division III New England toss from last Sunday for third place (48-11.75/14.93 meters).

Freshman Markiesh Harmon (Leominster, MA) impressed with second in the long jump (21-5.75/6.55m) and a Division III New England qualifying leap in the triple jump for fourth (42-10.5/13.07m).

First-year Sam Weeks (Methuen, MA) put up a new personal best in the shot put with fifth(45-2/13.77m) while senior Andrew Johnson (Thompson, CT) vaulted third in the high jump (6-6/1.98m) and classmate Issac Ofori (Worcester, MA/Doherty) tied for fifth in the same event (5-10/1.78m).

Senior Todd Paquin (Wilmington, MA), freshman Jared Barros (Taunton, MA) and Matthew Alley (Milford, MA) all placed fifth (23.60), sixth (23.66) and eighth (23.67), respectively, in the 200. Paquin was also sixth in the 60 and senior Ramses Rafael (Lawrence, MA) added the same standing in the 400 (52.45).

The 4x400 relay of Rafael, Barros, Gannon and freshman Shane McKinley (Melrose, MA) sprinting the second leg with a split of 3:34.85.

Next weekend, the Lancers will compete at the Springfield Invitational.
