Sliwoski, Begley Put Up Solid Marks At URI Heptathlon

Kingston, RI --- Senior classmates Jason Sliwoski (Leicester, MA) and Matthew Begley (E. Bridgewater, MA) both finished fifth and seventh, respectively, at the two-day University of Rhode Island heptathlon.

In his first heptathlon of the 2014-15 indoor season, Sliowski scored 4,294 points, just 671 points off of sophomore Ondrej Honka (Opova, Czech Republic) who won the event.

Sliwoski registered the fourth-best long jump (20-8/6.30 meters), shot put (38-1.75/11.83m), pole vault height (12-5.50/3.80m) and 60 meter hurdles split (9.34) while his high jump (5-9.25/1.79m) and 1,000 meter time were fifth overall (3:19.10). He also added 7.53 in the 60 meters.

This past year, Sliwoski ended his junior campaign with the 20th-best point total in the NCAA Division III – a school-record 4,670 points – which was good enough for third at the Division III New England Championships.

Highlighted by his personal-best toss for the longest mark in the shot-put during the competition, Begley had a solid performance in his first career heptathlon with 3,842 points.

After he ended the shot put with the best overall heave of 47-3.5 (14.44m), Begley chalked up fifth-longest throw in New England, that leapfrogged him into 19th place on the NCAA Division III list.

Begley wrapped up the meet with 18-6 in the long jump (5.64m), 9-2 in the pole vault (2.80m), 5-4.50 in the high jump (1.64m), a time of 7.49 in the 60, a split of 9.42 in the 60 meter hurdles before notching 3:29.80 in the 1,000.
