Westfield, MA --- Freshman standout Ian Fields (Shrewsbury, MA) took home All-MASCAC honors in three events while anchoring two relay teams as the Men's Outdoor Track and Field team finished in fourth place with 70 points at the MASCAC Championships this past weekend.
Westfield State captured their 13th straight crown with 275 points followed by Fitchburg State (162) and Bridgewater State (80). The Lancers also finished sixth overall within the New England Alliance with 51 points as they beat out the Bears for the seventh spot.
Fields captured a conference title in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.17 before he placed third in the high jump (1.81 meters) and fourth in the 200 (22.46). Fields placed second overall in the Alliance as he also qualified for the ECACs with his time in the 400.
Senior Mark Johnson (Woburn, MA) also had an impressive day as he collected second in the long jump (6.44m) third in the 100 (11.37) and fifth in the javelin throw (52.37m). Classmate Chris Mancuso (Rowley, MA) clocked second in the 800 meter run (1:59.22) while fourth-year Matt Leeds (Bellingham, MA) chalked up third in the long jump (12.92m) and fourth in the triple jump (6.37m).
Junior Jim Macera (Paxton, MA) rounded out the individual finishers as he hurled third in the hammer throw with a toss of 44.40 meters.
In relay action the 4x400 squad of Mancuso, Johnson, Fields and sophomore RJ Stahelski (S. Deerfield, MA) tallied third with a time of 3:32.32 while Leeds, Fields, Johnson and freshman Aaron Correia (Fall River, MA) placed fourth (44.16).
Select members of the men's outdoor track and field team will compete again this Saturday at the New England Division III Regional's.
