Gibson, Truong Pace Men's Track To Third Place At Tufts

 

Men's Outdoor Track Opens Campaign Ranked Sixth In New England In USTFCCCA Index

 

Medford, MA --- Junior Terrence Gibson (Rockland, MA) finished first in the 200 meters (22.30) and recorded the fourth fastest 110 meter hurdle time in Division III to help pace the Worcester State men's outdoor track and field team to third at the Tufts Snowflake Invitational.

The Blue and Gold registered 70 team points right behind Bates (108) and the hosting Jumbos (79) while also edging Bridgewater State who placed fourth (65 points).

Gibson blazed the track with his trial run of 14.71 while classmate Duy Truong (Worcester, MA/Doherty) notched fourth in the 100 (11.36) and long jump (21-6.25/6.56 meters) before adding seventh in the 110 meter hurdles (17.48).

The outstanding 200 time by Gibson qualified him for the ECAC Division III Championships and put him fifth in the standings while Truong's trial run in the 100 (11.19) and long jump were both Division III New England Championship standards.

Gibson anchored the 4x100 meter relay that teamed for a split of 42.52, took home first place and moved into 20th in the NCAA Division III standings. Truong led off, freshman Jared Barros (Taunton, MA) was second and junior Stephen Gannon (Mansfield, MA) was third.

Barros was also second overall in the 200 (22.62) and he tied for 10th in the 100 (11.28) for a pair of Division III New England times while junior Matthew Alley (Milford, MA) placed 12th in the 100 (11.30) also earn a spot at the regional championship.

For each of their outstanding contributions this week, Gibson copped MASCAC Track Athlete of the Week accolades while Barros was distinguished with MASCAC Rookie of the Week honors for the second consecutive week.

In the field, senior Andrew Johnson (Thompson, CT) cleared third in the high jump (6-4/1.92m) to stamp his ticket to his fourth career ECAC Division III Outdoor Championship while junior Dan Ross (Foxboro, MA) was right behind in fifth (6-0/1.83m).

Junior Matthew Begley (E. Bridgewater, MA) tossed fourth in the hammer (140-10/42.93m) and fifth in the shot put (42-2.50/13.78m) as freshman Sam Weeks (Methuen, MA) impressed with sixth in the shot put (44-4.25/13.52m) to qualify for the Division III New England's.

Freshman Andrew Valle (Stoughton, MA) had a heave of fifth in the javelin (155-4/47.35m) followed by sophomore Mario De Jesus (Lawrence, MA) who placed 10th (151-4/46.12m).

Junior Robert White (Ludlow, MA) had a mark of eighth in the hammer (125-0/38.09) and 10th in the shot put (40-0.75/12.21m). Weeks and junior Max Leveillee (N. Attleboro, MA) also equaled 10th in the hammer (117-4/35.76m).

Sophomore Benjamin Dussault (Assonet, MA), freshman Charles Newman (Westford, MA), junior Shaun Corum (Billerica, MA) and first-year Shane McKinley (Melrose, MA) were 13th (23.54), 14th (23.57), 16th (23.72) and 20th (23.86), respectively, in the 200.

Junior Adam Pepin (Paxton, MA) scored points with seventh in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (11:16.68) and he was 21st in the 400 meter hurdles (1:06.74).
