Johnson Distinguished With USTFCCCA All-Academic Honor

New Orleans, LA --- Senior Andrew Johnson (Thompson, CT) has been tabbed with US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic laurels for competing at a high level on the field and in the classroom.

The accolade for Johnson wraps up a solid career for one of the most consistent high jumpers in the MASCAC and on the New England scene.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have a 3.30 cumulative grade point average while also competing at the NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship or finishing the regular season in the top 35 in an individual event or in the top 25 collective relay events on the official NCAA POP listing.

Johnson saved the best jump of his career for last as he cleared 2.01 meters (6-7) to place eighth in an extremely deep field at the ECAC Division III Championships at RPI as many of the competitors were looking to better their NCAA marks. The height finished the season in a six-way tie for 35th on the NCAA Division III Outdoor rankings on the official TFRRS list.

Over the course of his career, Johnson has been a six-time Division III New England honoree with second place finishes during the indoor season as a sophomore and a junior while he has also earned All-Division III ECAC certificates on four separate occasions. Johnson has also been a four-time MASCAC Champion in the high jump at the indoor and outdoor championship meets.

In the 2013 outdoor campaign, he placed fourth at the Open New England Championships as the best Division III finisher and during the indoor season in his senior semester, Johnson tied for fourth at the Open New England's.

This past May, Johnson walked across the stage in four years with a stellar 3.37 GPA in Communication. He has been a seven-time MASCAC All-Academic recipient and he was also an active member of the Student-Athlete Mentor Program.

Johnson was one of 276 men's track and field student-athletes chosen from around Division III as he was joined on the team by standout javelin thrower Travon Godette (Orange, MA) from Westfield State as the other representative from the MASCAC.
