Women's Lacross Loses To Castleton State, 12-5

Worcester, MA --- Marie VanDerKar (Manchester, VT) scored a game-high 5 goals as the visiting Spartans of Castleton State College handed the host Worcester State College Lancers their first loss of the season by the final tally of, 12-5, Tuesday evening at Coughlin Field.  The loss drops the Lancers to 3-1 (1-1 NEWLA) while Castleton State evens up at 2-2 (1-1 NEWLA).

Castleton State controlled the action start to finish Tuesday.  The Spartans raced out to a, 7-0, lead over the the first 25 minutes of action in the first half.  Aimee Goulette (Baldwinsville, NY), Nicole Bouchard (Brentwood, NH) and VanDerKar each posted two first half goals while sophomore Stephanie Pearce (Shoreham, NY) scored one goal in the frame for the visitors.  Worcester State's Shannon Feeley (W. Springfield, MA) and Megan Rosborough (Uxbridge, MA) added late first half scores to set the score at, 7-2, at the break.

The Lancers appeared to be making an early second half run when Abby Cosenza (Shrewsbury, MA) and Brittany Jamieson (Foxboro, MA) opened the second half with consecutive goals to cut the deficit to, 7-4, but VanDerKar answered with her third of the game to push the margin back up to four.  Feeley added her second of the game with 25:24 remaining but that would be the final Lancer score of the game.  Castleton went on to add four more goals for the, 12-5, final.

VanDerKar led all scorers with 5 goals and a pair of assists. Bouchard followed with 4 goals and an assists.

Worcester State will look to get back in the win column on Thursday when they host Elms College in a NEWLA match.  Castleton State will visit Ramapo in non-conference action on Thursday.
