Lancers Sink Bucs to Remain Undefeated in MASCAC

Worcester, Mass. - Worcester State Women's Lacrosse returned home after three games on the road for a conference showdown against the Mass Maritime Buccaneers on a bright sunny afternoon at Coughlin Field. Five goals from Graduate Clare Conway (Billerica, Mass.) helped the Lancer conquest over the Bucs.

FINAL SCORE: Lancers 14, Buccaneers 6

Worcester State started out hot with early goals from senior Emily Pavoni (Granby, Mass.) and Clare Conway. A series of offensive drives resulted in them extending their lead by two heading into the second quarter, both from senior Lily Gendron (Lakeville, Mass.).

The Lancers wouldn't slow down there, as they put up six more in the second half, giving Conway another hat trick this season. Worcester's senior Shea Jarvis (Auburn, Mass.), sophomore Hannah Erickson (Dunstable, Mass.) and first year Abigail Vincent (Lakeville, Mass.) each recorded a goal of their own to add to the team's tally.

The Bucs' Cassie Llewellyn opened the scoring for Maritime early in the second quarter, followed by another in the final minutes of the half, bringing the score to 10-2 in favor of the Lancers.

The second half saw the Buccaneers gearing up for a late comeback bid as Lindsy Durgin added two more for Maritime, including one each from  Priscilla Murray & Grace Calvert. Calvert's goal was assisted by Llewellyn, who recorded her 100th career point.

However, the Lancers would not give up their lead, as Gendron completed her hat trick on a free position shot, followed by another Conway shot from Jarvis to seal the victory for Worcester State. Gendron also led the team with four assists, while Llewellyn, Durgin & Allie Dickinson recorded one each for the Bucs.

In the net, senior Savanna Rosado (Milford, Mass.) recorded five saves on eleven shots on goal in all sixty minutes of play, while Maritime's Sue Bird saved sixteen out of thirty shots.

This win brings the Lancers to a 7-6 record and on top of the MASCAC with a 3-0 conference record, while Maritime drops to 3-8 (0-3, MASCAC).

UP NEXT: The Blue & Gold are back home next Wednesday for a conference matchup against the Westfield State Owls, before heading on the road for their final away games of the regular season, scheduled for a 6:00pm draw.
