Final

Worcester State: 18

Wellesley: 5

How it Happened:

The Lancers opened up their season with an away trip to Wellesley. The pre-season had been a long process with weather causing havoc on the training process leading into the start of the season. Last year's team had many upperclassmen who were key contributors but one player who has returned was Molly Witkowski (Greenville, NY). The forward scored the first goal of the season for this Lancers team who will look to lead the MASCAC and all of New England in terms of goals this season. Witkowski would play provider for the second goal which was scored by sophomore Kerry Brown (Billerica, MA). The first quarter would see a period of end to end lacrosse with both teams testing the opposition's keeper. Wellesely would equalize to make the score 2-2 with about 7 minutes left in the first period. The Lancers would put their foot on the gas and engineer three goals in four minutes to regain their lead to claim a 5-2 advantage into the second with goals from senior Hannah Erickson (Dunstable, MA), junior Abigail Vincent (Lakeville, MA) and senior Abbie Wing (Griswold, CT).

The Lancers would open up the second quarter hot by scoring the first goal of the period once again, this time off the shot of senior Ashley Hurley (Feeding Hills, MA). The Lancers would concede a goal not long after but would then record six straight goals from Wing, Hurley, Brown and junior Mckayla Fisher (Peabody, MA). With the scoreline being 12-3 Erickson would complete hat tricks before the first half to push the lead to 14-3.

The third period would only see two goals, one from each squad, and a second for Witkowski on the day. The Lancers would Erickson score her fourth goal to make the scoreline read 16-4 with about 10 minutes to go in the fourth. The Blues and the Lancers would trade goals one more time to make it 17-5 off a sophomore Madigan Kelley (Bourne, MA) goal. The final goal of the day would go to third year winger Shannon Donahue (Dennis, MA). This would see the final score to be 18-5.
