North Dartmouth, MA --- Sophomore midfielder Sarah Rafferty (Uxbridge, MA) scored in the 79th minute to give visiting Worcester State a 1-0 victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s women’s soccer team in a non-conference match at the UMass Dartmouth Athletic Complex Tuesday afternoon.
UMass Dartmouth dropped to 6-10-1 with the defeat, while
Worcester State improved to 8-5-3 with the victory.
Rafferty took a pass from junior midfielder Kara
Rogato (North Andover, MA), moved in against Corsair
freshman goalkeeper Jen Warren (Somerset, MA), and scored the only
goal of the match with 11:11 remaining.
UMD out shot WSC, 15-12. Warren and junior goalkeeper Tanya Braga
(Hudson, MA) each played a half and combined to make five saves for
the Corsairs, while junior Rachel Armenti (West
Boylston, MA) made eight saves for the Lancers in her sixth shutout
of the year.
The Corsairs will return to action when they host Western
Connecticut State Saturday. The Lancers will host Salem State
Saturday in a key MASCAC matchup as it is their last game of
the regular season at 2 PM.
